As a family photographer, I love when parents interact and play with their kids during a session. I don’t think everyone has to be looking at the camera all the time. Sometimes I have to just watch the magic happen and silently document what comes naturally.

I was really excited when I was asked to photograph this young woman with her horse. I love creative opportunities, and this was a memorable one. I never mind photographing individuals or families with their pets or animals they love.

Best family session at the Stillwater, MN Boom Site!

The best family photos can happen when individuals are allowed to be themselves and have a little fun! This quaint spot in River Falls, WI is one of my favorite new locations to photograph families.

How could this little guy not smile when he’s getting cuddles with his twin brother and mom at the same time? To me newborn photography isn’t just about traditional poses. Newborn babies have their own raw beauty, the fleeting smiles, yawns, and other little facial expressions. Those tiny hands, feet and impossibly compact little body changes practically by the minute. I love to document in a way that shows them in their natural state.

I know that fall is a popular time for a photo session, but spring is pretty spectacular too! The color in spring is fresh and lends well to a lighter color palette. One of the best and probably hardest locations to take advantage of is a blooming apple orchard in the spring. This family session was perfect, and we couldn’t have asked for better weather!

Stillwater, MN is a phenomenal place to have a photo session. Whether you’re a high school senior or family, a photo session in downtown Stillwater or at the Boom Site are beautiful choices.
